Wonderful time at Hope in Farmington Hills yesterday. Reconnecting with old FINKS from way back, and a lot of future FINKS.
What did I learn?
1. You need a critical mass (of folks) to deal with your critical mess.
2. What we are proposing (ending the "program" mentality of the church and recreating Christian education as primarily a parent-engaged "process" every night in every home) will create an entirely new set of problems.
3. These new problems are a whole lot more attractive than the current problems most churches are facing right now.
4. 40% of the mainline churches will be flatline churches in 20 years, but their buildings could be sold and seed new life
5. The FAITH 5 could kill the little church (it would grow)
Jenison (Grand Rapids) with the Lutherans today, Dayton with the Methodists tomorrow, Bay Village (Cleveland) with the Episcopalians Friday, then back to North Dakota to surprise dad for his 89th birthday.
Later!
