I just awarded the second annual "Pengie" award from my Faith Inkubators Foundation to a 19 year old, Ross Turner from Fergus Falls, MN. His song "To Him" (Revelation 1:5b, 6 & 7 )is a rocking praise ballad and the winner of the "Worship and Praise Song of 2006". Ross wrote the song for the competition and it appears on his first solo album, "So Great".
We had an awards dinner for Ross and his band at the Dock Restuarant, enjoyed talking about their dreams and hopes for their music, and awarded him a check for $1000, an iPod and a foot-tall penguin statue for his work. They spend the night in our FINK guest apartment, then it was off to Todd Ernster's lake-side studio for a little Bible study and a recording session.
Great job, Ross! We hope to hear a lot more of you very soon.
amazing! can't wait to hear more also!

Man! This guy rocks!
Here are some thoughts that come to me as I listen to Ross' song 'To Him'.
I have a growing conviction that there is a link between the godly use of the arts and the charismatic gifts of God. Lets take prophecy, which is at its core simply the communication of God's heart for the 'now'. Now think about this, if God is speaking to us today, don't you think he'd use a language that speaks most powerfully to us today? I believe one such language is that of music, a language that has the ability to speak past our minds and impact our souls and spirits.
So I have no hesitation in saying that what this young man and his friends are doing is nothing short of vital, spiritual ministry that has the ability to spill outside of the walls of our churches and 'preach' to a generation that we seem to have so much difficulty reaching. Keep it up!
