My new friend Daniel Chalfen is in Israel right now visiting his sister's new baby, and talking to some folks about our proposed "45 Cameras" project with 15 Israeli/15 Palestinian/15 American kids and 45 video cameras. He is trying to get in touch with an Egyptian film maker who could help from the Arabic side of this little endeavor. I received an email this morning with a caution about including faith-based experiences in this project - even if they cover many religions. "But this is a conversation for another
time..." says Daniel. I responded:
Daniel,
Regarding your concerns, I'd love to hear them. Makes for a good "third beer" philosophical, ontological, theological late nighter. Something I enjoy immensely - if you have the right people who are prone to deep thought and not afraid to express their opinions. One of my favorite bumper stickers says, "All you really need for an asylum is a big room and the right kind of people."
Something to ponder before we meet:
Doing anything with a faith-based discussion included on the road for six weeks with teenagers from different worlds is potentially dangerous.
That may be just why we shouldn't do it.
Or it may be just why we should.
Have a great day.
Rich
PS - I just got this via email this morning from Yu Hua at Nanjing Normal University. It's a little song I wrote, had Todd Ernster from the "Killer Hayseeds" arrange, and sent to her to translate into Mandarin. Two of the voices singing won the "vocalists of the year" award in China in 2002. Top voices of a billion people, singing something from your heritage.
A Psalm of David, 25:4-7
